Guiding a legacy giving scheme

project overview

Fundraising consultancy / Legacy Giving Planning

Woodhorn Museum in Northumberland had an experienced and successful freelance fundraiser in place, but had no experience of legacy fundraising.

We were able to provide support and guidance on the do’s and don’ts, enabling the Museum to launch a legacy giving scheme which drew on the emotional resonance of the fascinating record of this former coal mining area, and the people who devoted their lives to ensuring Britain stayed warm and industry thrived.

I worked with Sarah to devise a legacy strategy for Northumberland Museums in 2016. This was a new initiative to introduce legacy giving across the museums. After spending some time with us at Woodhorn Museum, she wrote a very clear strategy on legacy fundraising for the Museums which the Board highly commended. As a result, we designed and distributed legacy leaflets across all museum sites and designed a new website area for legacies. Working with Sarah is a joy – she has great knowledge, a wealth of ideas for practical application, and can work with representatives from across the organisation. I would highly recommend her and have since brought her in to work with other clients.
